Field Day
We're back with our second annual Field Day for farmers and growers of all scales and experience levels!
This free event features workshops, demos, and more from various agricultural service providers, including WVU and WVSU Extension, Natural Resource Conservation Service, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and New Roots Community Farm staff members.
You can connect with resources for small farms and orchards and network with fellow growers. Lunch will be provided.

Sourdough Bread Class
Join us for a delightful and educational Sourdough Bread Class hosted by Humble Heritage. We'll learn the art of sourdough bread-making from start to finish. Participants will receive a proofing bowl, a rustic recipe, a heirloom starter, and their handmade dough.
Don't miss this opportunity to perfect your bread-making skills in a supportive and friendly environment!
Investment: $45 per person
Humble Heritage will also have an assortment of its goods (honey, skincare products, and more!) available for purchase at the workshop. They will also provide complimentary sourdough bread with various spreads for snacking.

Herbalism Workshop with victoria
Discover the healing power of herbs with local expert Victoria Chesterfield in a special two-part workshop here at the farm!
This hands-on experience is designed to teach you about the health-promoting properties of select herbs and practical tips for harvesting, processing, and preparation.
Participants will leave with the knowledge and skill sets they need to continue using plants and plant extracts to support their health, as well as a take-home bottle of a preparation we will make together.
In Part 1 on Saturday, July 20th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., participants will learn:
How to recognize herbs that grow wild in our area
Harvesting methods
Herbal actions and properties
How to prepare tinctures, infused oils, and oxymels
In Part 2 on Saturday, August 24th, from 1:00-2:00 p.m., participants will learn:
Straining methods
Bottling and labeling
Suggested dosage and storage of herbal preparations

Indigo Dyeing Workshop
Join us at the farm for a workshop on dyeing with indigo!
With textile artist Karen Lane, we will harvest fresh indigo from the farm and turn it into a vibrant natural dye. We will learn to create patterns, hand-dye natural silk, and participants will leave with a beautiful silk textile.
No experience is needed. All materials are included. Open to ages.

Pruning and Grafting Workshop
Join WVSU Extension at New Roots Community Farm in Fayetteville on Saturday, April 6, from 1-4 p.m. for a combination apple tree grafting and fruit tree pruning workshop. Participants can expect to learn about the different ways to graft an apple tree and then graft one to take home! Then, we will discuss best management practices for pruning fruit trees for health and production and go outside for some hands-on demonstration.
This workshop is limited to 25 participants, and registration is required because supplies are limited. All supplies will be provided, including rootstocks, scion wood, grafting tools, cut-resistant gloves, and hand pruners! If you want to bring your own apple scion wood, please feel free to do so, but the rootstocks will be limited to one per registrant. Further details and registration link forthcoming.
